Wash your hands and the affected area with warm, soapy water.

Disinfect the forceps and/or the scalpel with the alcohol wipes.

Take a good look at the splinter before you start working on it. Make a mental note of how the splinter has entered your skin, what direction it’s going in, and if any part of it is sticking out from the surface.  If you can grip the end, use the forceps to pull the splinter out.

Splinters buried below the surface can be removed by gently lifting or breaking the skin with the tip of the scalpel. Once you’ve exposed part of the splinter, use the forceps to pull it out from the same direction it went in.

Wash the area again with warm water or wipe with a fresh alcohol swab. If necessary cover the wound with a dressing.
