The London School of Furniture Making: Core Skills: Modern Wood Finishes

Core Skills: Modern Wood Finishes

LEVEL: Beginner/Intermediate

Scratched and stained table top

Making furniture is as much about the finish as it is about the joinery. It's the first thing someone notices and the thing they feel as they stroke the surface. A good finish makes your work come alive, a poor one looks and feels bad.

Sam will show you how to remove an old finish, prep the surface and apply a range of finishes, including oils, shellac, pre-cat lacquer and wax.

Bring along a smallish item such as a box, coffee table etc. to use as your course project. We have a few boxes which you can practice on if you can't find anything suitable.
